Summer and Fall 2023 CEHD Mason Core Courses

EDEP 110

EDEP 110: Academic Success Through Self-Regulated Learning will count as a Mason Core requirement for Social and Behavioral Sciences.  There is a section scheduled for Summer 2023 and another for Fall 2023. This course focuses on self-regulation theory to help students develop skills and practice evidence-based strategies for academic success, such as time management, distributed practice for exam preparation, or regulation when working with others.


EDRS 220

EDRS 220: Introduction to Applied Quantitative Analysis satisfies the Mason Core requirement for Quantitative Reasoning.  Two sections are being offered in Summer 2023, and three different sections are available for Fall 2023 registration. This course focuses on application of statistical knowledge using real-world examples from within various social sciences disciplines (e.g., education, kinesiology, sport).  


EDEP 350

EDEP 350: Perspectives on Achievement Motivation is a Mason Core approved course towards the Social and Behavioral Sciences requiremeent.  It is a great class for learning about motivation that students can apply to themselves or in their work with others in any context.  EDEP 350 also fulfills a requirement for the Educational Psychology Minor and is offered Tuesday/Thursday at 10:30am in-person on the Fairfax campus.

Financial Well-Being Peer Mentor Part-Time Position Available

The Student Support and Advocacy Center (SSAC) and Early Identification Program (EIP) are hiring a Financial Well-Being Peer Mentor for Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Spring 2024. Please read below for more information and apply on Mason360 by Monday, May 15, 2023


Position Pay, Commitment, & Eligibility Requirements:

Rate: $17.00 per hour

Part-Time: Up to 10 hours a week commitment

Open to graduate and undergraduate students. Experience working with students preferred.

Position Details:

The Financial Well-Being Peer Mentor (FWB Peer Mentor) will play an integral role in mentoring and assisting EIP high school students with understanding the financial cost of higher education. The FWB Peer Mentor will assist students and their families through small group coaching, lead workshops, and individual counseling; and provide continuous mentorship to high school students throughout the upcoming school year. The FWB Peer Mentor will have experience in mentoring high school aged students along with an understanding of the complexities that come with reading financial award letters, applying for the FAFSA, and transitioning from high school to college as first-generation college students. The FWB Peer Mentor will directly report to the Assistant Director for Financial Well-Being in the Student Support and Advocacy Center (SSAC). In addition, the FWB Peer Mentor will work closely with the Assistant Director for College Readiness, Early Identification Program (EIP). The FWB Peer Mentor will be an in-person and virtual position for Summer 2023 to Spring 2024.
