Q & A with Outstanding Student in Early Childhood Education for Diverse Learners, Lashelle Coenen:
What part of your Mason experience are you most proud of?
I’m honestly just proud that I made it through the entire program with such good grades, while working full-time and taking care of a toddler.
What are your future plans, goals, and dreams?
I’m currently working at a school that I love, with students that I adore. After graduation, I plan on focusing more of my energy on my job and my students! I’ve spent so much time doing work for school, that I haven’t been able to give my students my all. It’s finally my time to shine as teacher and prove myself!
What is your favorite memory from your time in the College of Education and Human Development?
My favorite memory in CEHD was when I received an email from a professor I had the previous semester, asking for updates on my pregnancy. It made me realize that the professors really care, and they truly enjoy building relationships with their students.
What advice do you have for fellow CEHD students?
Get a job in your field, while you’re in the program. It adds a little more stress, but being able to bring that background knowledge into your classes is extremely helpful.
Would you like to give any shout-outs to those who supported you along the way?
I want to give a shout out to my 2 year old, Auri, for sitting through all of my courses with me… and a shout out to Cocomelon for being the best babysitter I could ask for in such crazy times.
