Generation Hope Scholarship

Generation Hope is a non-profit organization that supports student parents. They are currently recruiting for their Generation Hope Scholars program. Apply here by Monday, May 1, 2023!

Eligibility Requirements:
  • 25 years old or under, and must be a teen parent (pregnant or parenting at 19 years old or under)
  • Planning to attend or attending a nonprofit college within 50 miles of DC, seeking an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination by July 2023
  • Open to U.S. Citizens, Permanent Legal Residents, and DACA recipients.
Generation Hope Scholars receive: 
  • Scholarship of up to $2,400/year
  • Mentor dedicated to their success 
  • Access to free mental health support, tutoring, and career coaching
  • Access to an emergency fund
  • Community of other teen parents

This is an external scholarship opportunity and is fully coordinated by an outside organization with no affiliation with George Mason University, the College of Education of Human Development (CEHD), or with the Office of Student and Academic Affairs (SAA).

Summer 2023 Graduate Peer Advisor (GPA) Opportunities

The CEHD Office of Student and Academic Affairs (SAA), in collaboration with the Office of the Associate Provost for Graduation Education (APGE), will support up to five (5) Graduate Peer Advisors (GPAs) for Summer 2023.

View this announcement for additional details about the position(s) and the qualifications. The position duties are fairly broad in support of CEHD graduate student enrollment, retention, and student success. The GPAs will support projects throughout the College and will have occasional meetings and trainings with the APGE staff. 

The duration of the appointment is June 10, 2023 – August 24, 2023.

Numerous CEHD scholarships are now open and accepting applications through Tuesday, May 30, 2023. These scholarships will be dispersed to recipients in the Fall 2023 semester.

CEHD Students Chosen to Attend the TOP Institute

The 2023 Teachers of Promise (TOP) Institute was held this past weekend, and five CEHD students were nominated to attend this prestigious event. 

The Teachers of Promise (TOP) Institute was established in 2004 to identify and recognize the best prospective teachers from college and university schools of education across Virginia. The Institute is funded by The Teachers of Promise Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization based in Roanoke, Virginia, and is organized by a team of practicing educators. To date, the Institute has honored more than 3,650 Teachers of Promise from more than three dozen institutions of higher education.

DKG Frances N. Wimer Recruitment Grant Application Is Open

The Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Society invites education students who meet the qualifications below to apply for the DKG Frances N. Wimer Recruitment Grant. The grant consists of $1,000 paid directly to a rising junior, senior, or postgraduate at an accredited college/university who is a resident of the greater Richmond area and plans to pursue a teaching career.

Qualifications/Eligibility

The applicant must be:

  • a rising junior, senior, or graduate level at a college/university in Virginia
  • majoring in a teacher preparation curriculum
  • carrying a full-time credit load as determined by the university/college
  • maintaining at least a 3.0 grade average
  • a resident of the greater Richmond area: City of Richmond, counties of Henrico, Powhatan, Goochland, Chesterfield, Charles City, New Kent, and Hanover.
Application Process

The applicant should complete the application below, requesting that a faculty member complete the faculty nomination portion. Applications must be completed and returned to the Scholarship Committee of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Chapter, along with a letter/statement of commitment, and an official college transcript by April 14, 2023

If the committee cannot easily select one applicant, finalists may be interviewed, probably virtually. Once the winner is selected, all applicants will be informed of the results by May 2023.
