Each year, faculty in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) come together to select an outstanding student in their program to receive the honor of being named as their program award winner. Students selected for this award embody the very best of their program: they excel in their studies; they demonstrate leadership in classes and internships; and they have a genuine and tenacious passion for their discipline.

Q & A with Outstanding Student in Special Education – Assistive Technology, Meriah Cory:

What part of your Mason experience are you most proud of?

The information I have learned and the interests I have found through the different courses I have taken. Through my research class, I have found a new passion that will help support the clients I serve and hopefully change their possibilities.

What are your future plans, goals, and dreams?

I would love to work internationally helping to support children and adults with special needs in places where there is not as much support for them.

What is your favorite memory from your time in the College of Education and Human Development?

I do not really have a favorite memory from CEHD as I did all of my course work online and but I enjoyed all the professors and the content of the classes.

What advice do you have for fellow CEHD students?

Don’t sign up for a degree just because you think you should get it. You really need to be engaged in what you are learning to make the most of the experience. You need to push yourself or you will only walk away with a minimal amount of knowledge, but if you push yourself all the tools are here to walk away with tons of knowledge and experiences.

Would you like to give any shout-outs to those who supported you along the way?

All of the staff is amazing, but I have loved taking both Cindy George’s and Dr. Yoosun Chung’s classes. They really try and meet you where you are in all of their classes and then push you to learn as much as you can.

Congratulations and best of luck, Meriah!
