The Literacy Lab, part of the AmeriCorps program, is reaching out to share an opportunity for students who may be graduating soon to get involved through full-time positions with the organization.
The Literacy Lab places rigorously trained, full-time tutors in high-need preschools and elementary schools, helping close the resource gap for schools so they can close the literacy gap for students. Literacy Lab tutors work full-time for one year with school staff and literacy experts to implement structured, evidence-based interventions with age 3 to grade 3 students on a daily basis. This short video should give you a good sense of their work.
In the 2018-19 school year, the program plans to place over 250 tutors in five metro areas (Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Kansas City, MO; Richmond, VA; Springfield, MA). Mason students could be a great fit for these tutor roles. At the same time, tutors can also expect to grow in this work, benefiting from extensive training and coaching in best practices for early literacy intervention.
