UPDATE: Application deadline extended until Tuesday February 5th at 11:59 pm!
The Student Transition Empowerment Program (STEP) provides academic and personal support to a cohort of first generation students who have been admitted to Mason. The program starts with a summer bridge program, where students take at least one summer class, build a support network of peers, faculty, and staff prior to the start of their freshman school year, and become acclimated to the Mason community. After the summer, students transition to their first full semester at Mason as STEP scholars. Students take a section of UNIV 100 together, continue to receive support from Peer and Mason Mentors, and remain connected to ODIME + LGBTQ Resources. This support continues throughout their time at Mason. Student participants must complete an application process to be considered for the program.
I’ve attached position descriptions for the summer positions, including instructions on how to apply. Peer Mentors continue to work with students into the academic year, while all other positions are for summer only. The positions are:
- Graduate Assistant for Student Staff Support (new position)
- Graduate Assistant for Residence Hall Support (new position)
- Peer Mentor
- Program Coordinator
All application materials for all positions are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, February 1st, and should be emailed to step@gmu.edu.
