The 2019 School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism Degree Celebration is just weeks away! If you’re among the graduates, we need your help with a very special project.
CEHD sets the mood for family and friends in the audience by playing fun music and a slideshow of pictures of the grads (learn how to sumbit your photos here) while they wait for the Degree Celebration to start. Then, when we’re ready for the Class of 2019 to process in, we dim the lights and play voiceovers from our grads before they start walking in.

Watch our tutorial above for more information on how to make your recording.
It only takes a minute to record your message using a smart phone and it will make a special memory for you and your guests! Email your recording to us by May 10. Any questions? Contact CEHD Student and Academic Affairs here.
Elena Prien, a graduate of George Mason University, endowed undergraduate student scholarships with the goal of enhancing students’ well-being. Applications for the 2019 Elena’s Student Scholarships for Well-Being are now available and can be found here.
Up to 6 undergraduate students will be selected and each will receive a $1000 scholarship (funds to be deposited in their Mason student accounts). Scholarship recipients also will have a well-being faculty/staff mentor who will assist them in designing and implementing a personal and individualized well-being plan in support of their learning and growth while at Mason. Ideal candidates are students who normally would not know about these resources and who could benefit from the mentoring and the scholarship. Past recipients have commented that the mentoring they received was most beneficial to their learning. Students must have a minimum overall 2.0 GPA and be enrolled full-time during the 2019-20 academic year.
Apply by Wednesday, April 17, at 5:00 pm. More information is available here.
Call for Submissions – 2019 Degree Celebration Student Speaker

“If you can speak, you can influence. If you can influence, you can change lives.” – Rob Brown
Are you willing to share your story, inspire those around you, and celebrate the success of yourself and your fellow graduates? If so, here’s your chance.
The College of Education and Human Development invites all students participating in a spring 2019 CEHD Degree Celebration to apply to be the student speaker for their respective ceremony.
This is an incredible opportunity to share your Mason Experience. That experience may include personal obstacles that you have overcome, goals that you have reached, specific people or faculty members that have supported you along the way and/or any advice that you want to pass along to your peers.
Speeches should be no more than five minutes and 1,000 words long (double-spaced, Arial or Times New Roman, 12-point font).
The Office of Student and Academic Affairs will review speeches and contact finalists to read their speech in front of a panel. Only one student speaker will be chosen for each Degree Celebration.
All speeches must be submitted to this link by Monday, April 8, 2019 to for full consideration.
Please contact Brianna Alford at [email protected] with any questions.
We look forward to reading your submission. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!
