Fall 2019 Palaver Hut Internships

The Palaver Hut is a Washington DC-based arts and education nonprofit devoted to nurturing families and children through African-influenced food, wellness, dance, music, and storytelling programs.  The Palaver Hut is now accepting resumes from metro D.C. graduate and undergraduate students interested in interning with them this fall. Depending on each student’s interests and skills plus The Palaver Hut’s organizational needs, interns will assist with a variety of tasks including program activities, community outreach, scheduling, research and writing, fundraising, graphic design, website development, photo and video recording and/or editing, social media, and more.

The internship starts the week of September 16 or 23, and ends in early May 2020; however, accommodations can be made for students who can only commit to one semester. During this period, interns must be able to commit to a total of about six hours one day per week working directly with The Palaver Hut’s founder and director, Vera Oyé Yaa-Anna.  The internship is unpaid, but offers a meal with every meeting, transportation reimbursement, resume-building experience working on both the front and back-end of a creative nonprofit, and a work reference and/or recommendation letter upon request given satisfactory performance.

Applicants should be university students with a demonstrated interest in food, nutrition, health, education, culture and the arts, or nonprofit work.  Applicants should also be outgoing, organized, detail-oriented, motivated and punctual.  Having a car is a plus, but not required.

Email Vera Oyé Yaa-Anna at [email protected] with your resume and times you are available for a phone interview from Saturday, September 14 to Tuesday, September 17 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, or if you have further questions.
